Suncheon Bay National Garden crossed the 1 million-visitor mark this year — reaching the milestone four days earlier than last year. Officials say the quicker pace reflects a deliberate shift from passive sightseeing to hands-on, experience-driven programming.
The visitor mix also shifted. Family outings grew as a share of visitors while organized tour groups declined, and about 9,000 international guests — including Chinese cruise passengers — visited, up from the previous year.
The garden expanded its linger-friendly offerings. At the Stream Path Garden, the Garden Meong program, Garden Picnic events in the Space Hub area, and live jazz performances combined to encourage relaxation and longer stays. In the Dutch Garden, hands-on workshops paired with exhibitions and helped generate online buzz.

More than 100,000 people visited over a single weekend, giving a welcome lift to local businesses. Nearby merchants reported higher sales, and visitor traffic spread throughout the downtown area.
Garden officials plan to add more performances and interactive programs. Expect a rolling parade of seasonal blooms: roses and peonies in May, followed by lilies and hydrangeas in June — perfect for springtime outings and photo ops.
