Lee Seung-chul, celebrated for his powerful voice, served as a judge on Mnet’s talent show Superstar K and became known for his blunt critiques—most famously during Season 4.

Not Shin Se-kyung
Despite his reputation for razor-sharp judgments, he once offered high praise to a contestant whose voice he likened to a mermaid’s spell. He was referring to Kim Ye-rim, who competed in Season 3 in 2011 as part of the duo Two Months.

At the time, Kim Ye-rim was a high school student in New Jersey. She teamed up with classmate Do Dae-yoon to form Two Months and earned a spot on Superstar K 3 through the show’s U.S. auditions.
In the preliminaries they performed Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity” and the Korean indie musician Tete’s “Romantico.”
Twelve years later, she reunited with Tete for a duet, giving fans a special surprise.

With a dreamy, understated tone, Kim Ye-rim drew rave reviews from the judges and fierce public interest. Two Months finished third overall, and the duo later signed with Mystic, the agency led by judge Yoon Jong-shin, to begin their careers.

After officially debuting, Kim Ye-rim won newcomer awards at the Golden Disc Awards, the Melon Music Awards, and the Gaon Chart K-POP Awards, marking her as a promising talent in 2013. Subsequent releases, however, failed to sustain that momentum, and she left her agency in 2016.

By May 2019, when many assumed she had effectively retired from the industry, she announced a fresh start with “SAL-KI,” a hip-hop–influenced single that marked a stark change in direction.

That October she released the fourth EP GENERASIAN, which confronted anti-Asian racism and male-dominated social norms. Returning under the stage name Lim Kim, she drew strong critical attention.

GENERASIAN earned Lim Kim awards for Best Dance & Electronic Album and Best Song at the 17th Korean Popular Music Awards, and it received nominations for Album of the Year and Musician of the Year.

On the hit Mnet series Street Woman Fighter 2, the dance crew 1MILLION used Lim Kim’s “YO-SOUL” and “YELLOW” for a mega-crew routine. That exposure led to a collaboration: the crew helped choreograph Lim Kim’s single “GUNG,” released this February.

Although Lim Kim has been rarely seen on television, she surprised many viewers with a recent appearance on the KBS music-variety program Synchro U.

Kim Ye-rim performed Kim Yoon-ah’s “Spring Days Are Gone” and, alongside Ahn Ji-young of Bolbbalgan4, sang NELL’s “Walking Through Memories,” delighting fellow performers, the live audience, and viewers at home.

Lim Kim returned with her distinctive, captivating voice and a more mature presence. Many viewers hope this marks the start of more frequent television appearances.
