The Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education has launched a special audit of a private high school in Changwon amid allegations of budget and subsidy misuse.
On April 14, the office said it had begun a special audit of A High School on April 13.
According to the allegations, A High School allocated funds to purchase equipment for golf scholarship students but did not deliver the equipment to those students.
There are also claims that the rugby team’s operating budget was improperly used for purposes that did not benefit students.
Investigators say a subsidy of roughly ₩16,000,000 (about $12,300) that the school received from the Korea Small and Medium Business Corporation and Changwon University for a job-training camp was also improperly spent.
The audit office will examine the legality, appropriateness and transparency of athletic program management and the processes used to allocate various subsidies and budgets.
It will focus particularly on proper accounting, compliance with spending rules and any misconduct in the operation of programs, and will work to establish the facts behind the allegations.
The office said it will recover funds and refer the case to law enforcement if the audit uncovers legal violations.
