‘Newsroom’: SeeYa reunites after 15 years.

On the 11th, JTBC’s Newsroom welcomed SeeYa’s full lineup — Nam Gyuri, Kim Yeonji and Lee Boram — who reflected on reuniting after a 15-year hiatus and outlined their plans going forward. The trio, gathering again after a long absence, spoke candidly about their past and the emotions of the reunion.

Recalling their appearance on the variety show Sugarman, the members admitted how nervous they were at the time. \”I couldn’t think of anything back then,\” Nam Gyuri said. \”I was so nervous.\”

Lee Boram remembered being so anxious that she needed to use the restroom, laughing that she kept thinking, \”What do I do?\” Kim Yeonji added, \”It’s been so long since we’ve been seen together like this — I think we all felt the same way.\”

On why a reunion hadn’t happened earlier, Lee Boram said the group had to accept the company’s decisions at the time. \”We wanted to have more control, so we decided to establish our own company and incorporate,\” she explained.

Today, SeeYa runs its activities through a company the members themselves operate. Nam Gyuri joked, \”All three of us are shareholders and officers of the corporation,\” then added with a smile, \”I unintentionally became the CEO.\”

Lee Boram serves as executive director while Kim Yeonji is the managing director. \”We don’t have a single employee,\” Lee Boram admitted. Nam Gyuri added, \”We’re handling everything ourselves. We may be a bit short-staffed, but we’re collecting our ideas and working through them one step at a time.\”

Discussing their new single, \”Nevertheless, We,\” Nam Gyuri said the lyrics compare the group not to a briefly blooming flower but to a tree that has stood through the seasons. \”It means we’ve weathered 20 years and want our music to take root like a big tree for many people,\” she said, stressing that the song compresses those two decades into a gift for their fans.

On the musical direction of their fourth full-length album, due in May, Nam Gyuri said the record will include the signature SeeYa sound fans expect, along with some unexpected experiments that might make listeners ask, \”Is that really SeeYa?\” She added, \”If fans want dancing, we’ll consider it.\”

Asked about future plans, Kim Yeonji said, \”We’ve never done a national tour, so we definitely want to try that.\” Nam Gyuri added, \”We want to show overseas fans that there’s a three-woman group like this in Korea. I hope we get opportunities to connect with many international fans.\”
