[Sports Today reporter Jeong Ye-won] JYP Entertainment’s genre-blurring band Xdinary Heroes (XH) released sneak-peek clips for every track on their forthcoming mini-album, signaling the potential arrival of one of their most cohesive records yet.
Ahead of the mini-album DEAD AND, due April 17, Xdinary Heroes uploaded track sneak peeks across their official social channels, previewing excerpts from all seven songs. On April 11 they revealed the album track “No Cool Kids Zone” and the lead single “Voyager,” and on April 12 they shared the opening track, “Helium Balloon.”
In the “No Cool Kids Zone” clip, Jun Han leans into a gritty, garage-band energy and delivers swaggering lines — We hate some dumbers and the pretty face of players So dare you wanna come here need to get permission (Fool, sheet) Don’t u know? Just get it off — while locking into the beat. The raw band vibe and clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics promise an entertaining listen.
On the title track “Voyager,” Geonil, Jeongsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han and Jooyeon build to an anthemic refrain — Even if every wound may seem pointless, like when you left I’ll ignite for ya Burning brighter ’til we disappear Oh oh oh — delivering a surge of emotion. Propulsive rhythms and sweeping band performance heighten the track’s intensity and raise anticipation for the full release.
In the “Helium Balloon” clip, Jooyeon sings over a lyrical melody, intoning — Tick Tock Tick Tock / The more it rises, the tighter it gets; it could burst at any moment / What should I do? I loved who I was, filled with you. I’m afraid, but it has slipped away — evoking a wistful, bittersweet mood. The dreamy, vintage-tinged arrangement and the band’s delicate expressiveness leave a lasting impression.
DEAD AND features seven tracks in total: lead single “Voyager,” pre-release “X Room,” “Helium Balloon,” “No Cool Kids Zone,” “Hurt So Good,” “Rise High Rise,” and “KTM.” Since their debut, Xdinary Heroes have consistently participated in songwriting and production, carving a distinct musical identity; with every member credited on this project, the group promises another batch of original, band-driven material.
Riding the album’s momentum, Xdinary Heroes will launch Xdinary Heroes ‘The New Xcene’ Special Live in Europe & UK, beginning in Manchester on May 31 (local time), then stopping in London on June 2, Paris on June 4, Frankfurt on June 7, and Milan on June 9. Following their first solo shows in Osaka and Yokohama this January as part of The New Xcene, the band is continuing to expand its global footprint and reinforce its reputation as a must-see live act.
Meanwhile, Xdinary Heroes’ eighth mini-album DEAD AND and its title track “Voyager” will be available on major streaming platforms at 1 p.m. KST on April 17.
