Geoje City in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 10th that it will launch a pilot program called the \”2026 Geoje Half-Price Trip (Simkkung Seomkkung)\” to attract visitors and boost local spending.
The pilot is aimed at groups of 2–4 travelers who live outside Geoje and stay in the city for at least one night.
Participants who submit proof within seven days of completing their trip will be reimbursed for 50% of eligible travel expenses in mobile \”Geoje Love\” gift certificates.
If a group crosses the Geoga Bridge, the city will also cover up to 10,000 KRW (about $7.50) for tolls, in addition to the subsidy.
To qualify, teams must book at least one night at a local accommodation and visit at least one paid attraction and one traditional market.
Teams are also required to post about the trip on their personal social media with a photo that includes all members and have total spending of at least 100,000 KRW (about $75.00).
Excluded from the subsidy calculation are lodging fees, rental car and fuel costs, and spending at entertainment venues such as hostess clubs.
The support period runs from April 15 through May 31.
Those who want to participate can apply on the Geoje Half-Price Trip website from April 13 through May 29.
A city official said, \”We plan to analyze tourism demand and visitor satisfaction through this pilot program and then consider whether to expand it in the future.\”
