[Sports Today reporter Jeong Ye-won] ‘Sessibong’ will bring a 58-year musical journey to a close on Geum Taneun Friday.
TV CHOSUN’s variety series Geum Taneun Friday will air its 16th episode on April 10, featuring Part 2 of “Sessibong: The Final Story.” Having announced their farewell stage on the program, Sessibong led viewers into nostalgia last week with voices that still sounded remarkably youthful.
After the episode aired, viewers responded with mixed emotions — comments ranged from “this brings back memories” and “it’s a shame it’s the last time” to “thank you for putting together a Sessibong special.”
That night, the group opened with “Save the Last Dance for Me.” The episode revealed that the song had long been one of Cho Young-nam’s signature pickup numbers, which drew attention. Cho laughed it off, calling it both a pickup song and a way to make money, while Kim Se-hwan quipped, “There was always a line of girlfriends around you,” prompting laughter from the audience.
Cho also staged an impromptu onstage moment, maintaining his unpredictable streak through the end. According to production, even fans who had been visibly saddened burst into laughter. Viewers will see Cho’s trademark wit lighten what could have been an overly solemn farewell when the episode airs.
The folk veterans also delivered a trot set. Kim Se-hwan showcased his hidden trot chops with “A Glass of Makgeolli,” then segued into a trot medley with his bandmates, lifting the energy. As the group reinterpreted material through Sessibong’s signature sensibility, cast members including Kim Yong-bin kept marveling, “Is this live?” Their blend of humor and goosebumps promises a performance that will linger.
Part 2 of the TV CHOSUN special “Sessibong: The Final Story” will air at 10 p.m. on April 10.
