Actor Kim Ji-seok spoke candidly about how his priorities shifted after presiding over his grandmother’s funeral.
On April 4, his YouTube channel Kim Ji-seok: The Jewel Within uploaded a video titled Daytime Drinks with Somin.
Kim said, “Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my dreams. If we expect to live to 100, I keep asking myself what the next chapter will be. I’ve been acting since my early 20s, so I wonder what comes next. But everything felt vague.”

Reflecting on his recent loss, Kim said, “My grandmother passed away recently. It was my first time serving as the chief mourner, and my first experience dealing with the death of an immediate family member. Going through that makes the world look different.”
Describing the three-day funeral, he said, “People kept coming and going, and I noticed how others remember my grandmother and how we remember her. It felt like she was giving one final gift to the family as she left,” he said, conveying a deep sense of longing.
“I used to imagine buying a building and living off the rent,” he added. “But after witnessing death, those dreams felt hollow.”

He offered a philosophical reflection: “What matters most now is how I’ll be remembered—how people will recall me and what mark I’ll leave on the world.”
Co-host Jeon So-min replied, “That became a milestone.” Kim responded, “I think she left me a signpost. I’m really grateful for that.”
Kim said he doesn’t want to work only to make a living and spoke frankly about searching for a more meaningful life. He also reaffirmed his passion for acting, adding, “I want to do dramas.”
