[Sports Today reporter Kang Tae-gu] Pohang Steelers beat Daejeon Hana Citizen to secure back-to-back wins.
Pohang edged Daejeon 1-0 at Pohang Steel Yard on April 4 in Round 6 of the 2026 Hana Bank K League 1.
The victory moved Pohang to 2-3-1 (9 points), lifting them into fourth place. Daejeon, now on a two-game skid, fell to 1-3-2 (6 points) and sit fifth.
Pohang threatened early. In the 6th minute Lee Ho-jae thought he had opened the scoring, but VAR flagged an offside and the goal was ruled out.
Daejeon then suffered a decisive blow in the 22nd minute. During a set piece, Juninho went down after colliding with an opponent while challenging for a header. A VAR review resulted in Diogo being sent off and a penalty awarded, which Lee Ho-jae calmly converted from the spot.
Down to ten men, Daejeon struggled to create chances and failed to register a shot in the first half, which ended with Pohang leading 1-0.
Daejeon came closest to a reply early in the second half. In the 7th minute, Lee Myung-jae’s free kick rattled the side netting, one of their few opportunities.
With the numerical advantage, Pohang pressed for a second goal, but Daejeon goalkeeper Lee Chang-geun produced several outstanding saves to keep the scoreline intact.
Pohang held firm until the final whistle to claim a 1-0 win.
Elsewhere, Gangwon FC dismantled Gwangju FC 3-0 to record their first win of the season.
The result lifted Gangwon to 1-3-2 (6 points), level with Daejeon in fifth place. Gwangju sit eighth with a 1-3-2 record (6 points).
Gangwon struck early when Kang Tu-ji put them ahead in the 9th minute. Three minutes later Mo Jae-hyun doubled the lead, and Lee Yoo-hyun wrapped up the scoring in the 53rd minute to seal a comfortable 3-0 victory.
