[Sports Today Reporter Im Si-ryeong] Singer Mark is leaving his agency and the group NCT after a decade. Fellow member Doyoung urged fans to stop speculating and said he respects Mark’s decision.
On April 3, SM Entertainment announced that it had ended its exclusive contract with Mark, officially confirming his departure from NCT.
In a statement, the agency said, \”Since debuting with NCT in 2016, Mark has demonstrated exceptional talent in both group and solo activities, delivering noteworthy work over the past ten years. We are grateful for the precious time we’ve shared, and we sincerely support Mark as he leaves the team to begin a new chapter.\”
As a result, Mark will conclude all NCT activities, including those with NCT 127 and NCT DREAM.
In a handwritten letter, Mark explained his decision, writing that after long reflection he wanted to \”awaken every sense inside me\” and fully immerse himself in the next phase of his career.
He went on to say that every member supported him without exception and that he will continue to support and love them. He promised to carry gratitude for SM, his NCT bandmates and the fandom — Sizni — for the rest of his life, and vowed to do his absolute best to return with a stronger version of himself when he greets fans again.
After the news broke, NCT member Doyoung — currently serving in the military — also said he respects Mark’s choice. On social media he asked fans to receive Mark’s long-held sincerity and concerns without prejudice and wrote that if a moment ever comes when they can be together again, he will prepare and plan diligently.
Doyoung was emphatic about shutting down speculation and rumors of discord. He warned that unfounded doubts about Mark and the members would bring unbearable sadness and a sense of injustice, and he urged fans to preserve the beauty they’ve shared with one another for more than a decade.
Jeno, writing on the fan platform Weverse, told Sizni: \”Of course we’re sad now, but this is also part of our story. Please watch over the next chapter of Dream as we move forward. Let’s be sad for a moment, then go on to make new, happy memories together.\”
After the announcement that Mark is ending team activities, footage from last month’s NCT DREAM tour — in which members were seen crying and embracing on stage — has resurfaced online.
Going forward, NCT 127 will promote as a seven-member lineup — Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo and Haechan — while NCT DREAM will continue as a six-member unit — Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung.
