[Herald Economy — Reporter Ham Young-hoon] Hoshino Resorts is rolling out sensory-forward cherry blossom experiences this April that invite travelers to do more than just look — they’re designed so you can taste, smell, hear, touch, and feel spring in full bloom.
The group has curated four themed stays that highlight each region’s personality: Kyoto’s serene elegance, the soothing hot springs of Tochigi and Shizuoka, Osaka’s dazzling nightscapes, and an entirely new way to enjoy sakura — by water cycle.
▶ Savor sakura in Kyoto like a Heian court noble
HOSHINOYA Kyoto, tucked into Arashiyama, preserves the refined atmosphere of Oku-Arashiyama — once a villa district for nobles a thousand years ago — and offers guests an intimate, luxe take on hanami. While Arashiyama is one of Japan’s top 100 cherry-blossom spots and attracts crowds at peak bloom, HOSHINOYA Kyoto sits in a quiet valley about 1 km from the busy Togetsu-kyo Bridge, far enough to feel private and peaceful.
From March 25 to April 9, guests can board the hotel’s private boat, Hisui, for a moving cherry-blossom cruise. You’ll feel the river breeze, get up close to trees in full bloom, and enjoy a special breakfast beneath a tunnel of blossoms — a morning that feels curated just for you.
Every room faces the river, and the standout moment is spotting the weeping cherry framed in your window. Petals swaying in the wind look like a living ink painting and invite quiet reflection. The outdoor tea room, the Hanazakura terrace, is another perfect perch: sip subtly scented cherry blossom tea and watch petals drift across the horizon to experience true calm.

▶ Open-air baths showered with petals: KAI Kinugawa, Ito, and Anjin
KAI — a modern reinterpretation of the traditional ryokan — brings hanami to the hot springs with its “Hanami Onsen” concept. KAI Kinugawa in Tochigi and KAI Anjin and KAI Ito in Shizuoka each offer distinct springtime charms that awaken the senses.
KAI Kinugawa’s Hanami Onsen program runs April 6–20. About 30 large cherry trees planted in front of the open-air bath shift moods with morning light, sunset, and night illumination, creating a pink-hued scene that’s as immersive as it is relaxing. The hotel also reserves a private cherry terrace for up to five groups a day, serving matcha in traditional Mashiko pottery alongside cherry blossom confections on Kanuma Kumiko woodwork. After dark, spring-only cherry-themed drinks paired with seasonal dishes elevate the tasting experience.
KAI Ito and KAI Anjin will run a joint open-top bus cherry-blossom tour March 23–April 5. The ride covers about 1,500 trees across roughly 40 varieties, including highlights like Sakuranosato, with KAI staff onboard as guides.

From a second-floor bus seat you’ll glide through cherry tunnels almost within reach — the breeze and the bloom feel more exhilarating than a stroll. The tour stops at Sakuranosato for a KAI original bento, and afterward you can relax in the generous open-air baths at KAI Ito and Anjin to complete a perfect Shizuoka spring day.
▶ “Oh wow — it’s a city of flowers”: OMO7 Osaka
OMO7 Osaka, a fresh urban hub for city explorers, offers one of the season’s most dazzling and well-planned hanami experiences. Located right in front of Shin-Imamiya Station, the hotel makes it easy to enjoy downtown cherry spots and reach Universal Studios Japan (USJ) without missing a beat.
The hotel’s expansive Miya-green garden covers 7,600㎡ (about 81,858 sq ft) and is a private sakura sanctuary for guests. By day, spread a blanket on the grassy lawn and picnic with cherry trees set against the skyline. By night, guests enjoy PIKAPIKA NIGHT — a free, hotel-exclusive event that blends Osaka’s neon energy with fireworks and light art.

This season, OMO7 adds a taste of Osaka’s iconic street food. Guests can try takoyaki from Aizuya, founded in 1933 and featured in the Michelin Guide for three consecutive years. Slip into a hotel yukata, bite into piping-hot takoyaki that’s crispy outside and tender inside, and pair it with a complimentary craft beer for a stylish, urban spring evening you can only get in Osaka.
As an official partner of Universal Studios Japan, OMO7 Osaka runs a free shuttle to the park — and an OMO Ranger, a hotel staff member who doubles as a local guide, rides along to keep the ride lively and informative.

▶ Pink rides across the water: BEB5 Tsuchiura
BEB5 Tsuchiura, Japan’s only bicycle-concept hotel, is offering an exclusive cherry-blossom water-cycling program from March 25 to April 10. Guests pedal specially designed water bikes along roughly 2 km of sakura-lined riverbank on the Sakuragawa, turning passive flower-gazing into an active, on-water adventure. Riding through a low-hanging cherry tunnel and seeing petals scatter across the surface is a thrill that a regular road ride simply can’t match.
During the ride, you can snack on cherry-flower macarons and sip warm tea for a sweet pause. Floral accessories like wreaths and rings complete the look, creating picture-perfect moments meant to flood your social feed with springtime pink, Hoshino Group says.
