[Inews24 reporter Lee Sang-wan] Anyang City in Gyeonggi Province is rolling out major improvements to public transit for residents.

On the 1st, the city said it will expand daytime service for the autonomous bus Juyaro starting with the first trip each day and shorten the intervals between runs.

The number of autonomous buses on the daytime route has increased from one to two, and headways have been cut from 60 minutes to 30 minutes. Service continues to run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the bus does not operate on Mondays or public holidays (it runs normally on Saturdays).

The route has been partially extended. Juyaro will now serve the Pyeongchon Elfroud Apartments, stopping at Complex 1 and Complex 2. On the upbound route (toward Bisan Sports Park → Hagwon-gasa Intersection), the bus will add stops at the Sports Complex Swimming Pool and Bisan-dong Church before calling at Pyeongchon Elfroud Apartment Complexes 1 and 2. The downbound route (Hagwon-gasa Intersection → Bisan-dong terminal) will continue to bypass those apartments as before.

Officials also adjusted some stops to improve safety during turning maneuvers. Beginning the 1st, the upbound stops at Hagwon-gasa Intersection and Mokryeon Woosung Apartments will no longer be served. The opposite-side stops — Hagwon-gasa Intersection and Hyangchon Hyundai Apartments — will continue to be served after the turn.

Juyaro is free to ride. Passengers can reserve in advance through the Gyeonggi integrated transport platform Ddokta app or board directly at stops without a reservation. Real-time bus locations are available by searching route number AY01 on major map portals or bus information apps.

For safety, children under age 6 are not permitted to ride, and anyone under 14 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

A city official said, \”We expanded routes and increased service frequency to improve residents’ access to public transit. We will do our best to ensure safe operations and service management so the autonomous bus becomes a reliable, practical transport option.\”

Anyang also operates a nighttime Juyaro service (route AY02) linking Indeogwon, Beomgye and Anyang stations. It continues to run from midnight to 2:30 a.m., covering hours when public transit is limited.

Anyang launched Juyaro service in April 2024 and has been recognized for its overall operations, including service, facilities, systems and safety protocols.

Last year, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport awarded Anyang the top grade (A) in its Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Operation Area evaluation — the only municipal government to receive that rating.
