[Herald Economy = Reporter Kim Ju-ri] Anri Sakaguchi, a retired actress and the eldest daughter of the late Japanese star Ryoko Sakaguchi, was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting a convenience-store sandwich priced at about 300 JPY (about $2.01; about 2,800 KRW (about $2.10)).
Local outlets, including Kyodo News, reported on the 24th that officers from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Takao Police Station arrested Sakaguchi, 35, on the afternoon of the 17th in Hachioji City on a theft charge. The sandwich was said to cost around 300 JPY (about $2.01; about 2,800 KRW (about $2.10)).
According to reports, a store clerk noticed suspicious behavior, called the police, and detained Sakaguchi until officers arrived and took her into custody. Media accounts say she admitted the allegation.
Sakaguchi is the eldest daughter of well-known actor Ryoko Sakaguchi, who died in 2013. She worked as a TV personality before announcing her retirement from the entertainment industry in September 2017. Since then, she has remained a frequent tabloid subject for her appearance in adult productions, two marriages and divorces, and a public confession about having had an abortion.
Local outlets also reported that, after announcing her second divorce in November, Sakaguchi often posted messages on social media that suggested she was facing financial difficulties.
