[Sports Today reporter Song O-jung] BTS has added its seventh song to Spotify’s billion-stream club.
“Life Goes On,” the title track from BTS’s seventh EP BE, released in November 2020, surpassed one billion cumulative streams on Spotify as of March 21. With that milestone, BTS now counts seven tracks that have each exceeded one billion streams on the platform.
The group previously hit the billion-stream mark with “FAKE LOVE,” “Boy With Luv” (feat. Halsey), “Dynamite,” “Butter,” “My Universe” and “Left and Right” (feat. Jung Kook of BTS). That “Life Goes On” reached the milestone while being largely sung in Korean makes the achievement especially notable.
The milestone has drawn added attention alongside the release of their new full-length album ARIRANG on March 20. Every track from ARIRANG has been performing strongly on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs – Global chart, and “Life Goes On” re-entered that chart on March 21—about five years after its initial release—creating the unusual sight of both new and catalog tracks finding success at the same time.
When it first arrived, “Life Goes On” reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (the Dec. 5, 2020 chart), marking the first predominantly Korean-language song to top the Hot 100 in the chart’s 62-year history and leaving a clear imprint on music history.
Meanwhile, BTS released their fifth studio album ARIRANG on March 20. The album’s title track, “SWIM,” led Spotify’s Daily Top Songs – Global chart for two consecutive days (March 20–21). In South Korea, the song swept daily charts on major services including Melon, Genie and Bugs on March 22, underscoring the group’s continued commercial dominance.
