South Gyeongsang Province is investing 17.5 billion won (about $13.13 million) to modernize barn facilities and expand ICT-based smart-livestock initiatives. On the 19th, it convened a working-level meeting with city and county officials at the Western Government Office to ensure effective execution.
The meeting, organized by the provincial government, brought together team leaders responsible for livestock affairs from the province and local governments. Officials reviewed the 2026 direction for the barn modernization program and the livestock ICT convergence project and solicited feedback from the field.
At the meeting, attendees discussed revisions to the 2026 barn modernization guidelines, the strategic direction and management measures for the livestock ICT convergence project, and the field challenges and institutional-improvement proposals encountered during implementation.
They also shared the current difficulties facing livestock farms following recent outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) and avian influenza (AI). Officials explored ways to reduce the risk of animal disease and improve productivity by modernizing barns and expanding smart-livestock infrastructure.
The province views barn modernization and the spread of ICT-based smart livestock as essential to strengthening competitiveness, preventing disease, and improving environmental conditions. Working with city and county governments, it plans to push these projects so they deliver tangible results in the field. This year, the province will allocate 9.6 billion won (about $7.20 million) to 13 barn modernization sites and 7.9 billion won (about $5.93 million) to support 39 ICT convergence projects in the livestock sector.
South Gyeongsang Province also said it will incorporate the opinions and suggestions raised by city and county officials at this meeting into future project rollouts and institutional reforms to stabilize farm management and build a sustainable livestock industry base.
Park Dong-seo, head of the provincial livestock division, said, “Smart-livestock initiatives are essential not only to address labor shortages and an aging farm population but also to establish a sustainable livestock sector that coexists with local communities. We ask city and county governments to maintain active, field-centered engagement and cooperation.”
