The upcoming 130th episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Smoking Gun,’ set to air on the 10th, will examine a 2008 murder case involving an 81-year-old woman with dementia in a Seoul multi-family residence.
Kim Jang-soo, who headed the Seoul Police Agency’s cold case and long-term missing persons investigation team at the time, will appear on the show. He will provide a gripping account of the intense investigation that led to the perpetrator’s crucial confession.

The case unfolded on June 17, 2008, when a son called 911 reporting that his mother wouldn’t wake up. Emergency responders arrived to find the elderly woman lying peacefully in bed, already deceased.
While the son initially claimed natural causes due to old age, the autopsy results were horrifying. Most of the victim’s ribs were fractured, and her body was covered in bruises. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation from chest trauma, prompting authorities to reclassify the case as homicide.

With no signs of forced entry, investigators zeroed in on the son and daughter-in-law who lived with the victim. The couple initially denied any involvement, but as the evidence mounted, they began accusing each other, leaving the studio audience stunned by their revelations.
Ann Hyun-mo expressed shock at the cause of death, which she had assumed was natural, while Lee Ji-hye was visibly moved by the unexpected identity of the perpetrator and the tragic circumstances surrounding the case.
Dr. Jeong Yeon-kyung, a psychiatrist, provides an in-depth analysis of the perpetrator’s psychological profile and motivations. The expert explores how the challenges of long-term caregiving and the realities of dementia can lead to such a grave violation of familial bonds.
‘Smoking Gun’ is scheduled to air on the 10th at 9:45 PM.
