[Joy News 24, Reporter Lee Ji-young] Former broadcaster Choi Seon-kyu revealed that his daughter once faced a life-threatening car accident.
Choi Seon-kyu appeared on the CGN YouTube channel on the 10th.
In the released video, Choi Seon-kyu shared that September 26, 1992, remains the most unforgettable day of his life. He recounted, “That day, I finished my regular broadcast and hosted a live show from 10 PM to midnight.”
He continued, “After the broadcast, a junior announcer handed me a note while crying. It read, ‘Daughter in car accident, life-threatening. Emergency room at Gangnam Seongshim Hospital.’ My three-year-old daughter had suffered severe injuries after being hit twice by a moving truck in an alley and then run over.”

Choi Seon-kyu recalled, “She was pronounced dead at the scene. My wife crawled under the truck to pull our child out before contacting us. That Saturday, construction work had us trapped on the road. The time spent at that rotary was the most terrifying moment of my life.”
He added, “When I arrived at the hospital, my daughter was covered with a white sheet. It was devastating. I held her and cried alone for an hour. Then, I felt warmth from her previously unresponsive body. She began to move slightly, and I thought, ‘Our daughter isn’t dead. Please save her.’ But no medical staff came to help. I was out of my mind. I felt something blocking her throat, so I opened her mouth and pulled out a blood clot. After that, she started breathing again with her eyes closed. She was admitted to the intensive care unit immediately, marking the beginning of a two-year hospital stay. She went in at three and was discharged at five.”
Choi Seon-kyu shared, “Due to the accident’s aftermath, my daughter still has discomfort in her left eye and faced bullying. So, I sent my wife, daughter, and son to study in Canada. My daughter has since become an adult, and the aftereffects have subsided. She currently works as a ground crew member for an airline in Canada.”
