Ferrari Luce: The Revolutionary Electric Supercar Designed by Apple’s Jonathan Ive

Daniel Kim Views

Jonathan Ive, the visionary behind Apple’s golden era and the iPhone’s iconic identity, has just unleashed a seismic shock in the automotive world.

After five years of clandestine collaboration with legendary supercar marque Ferrari, Ive has finally unveiled the interior of their first all-electric masterpiece: the Ferrari Luce.

This groundbreaking project, a joint effort between Ferrari and LoveFrom, Ive’s design studio, has so far revealed only the interior and interface as part of its three-phase launch strategy.

Surprisingly, the Luce’s interior ethos centers on the “elimination of superfluous embellishment.”

Despite spearheading the smartphone revolution, Ive has revived meticulously crafted aluminum physical buttons and aircraft-inspired toggle switches for Ferrari’s cockpit.

By reimagining the Bauhaus principle of form following function, Ive has made the trend of oversized screens in luxury vehicles seem instantly outdated.

The interior materials showcase an almost fanatical attention to detail.

Not a trace of cheap plastic can be found; every component is precision-milled from 100% recycled, anodized aluminum alloy.
In an industry first, Ive incorporated E Ink technology into the key fob, which changes its logo color when inserted into the center console, signaling the car’s readiness – a testament to his obsession with detail.

The iPhone’s hallmark precision meets supercar aesthetics, creating an awe-inspiring fusion of technology and art.

The technical prowess on display is equally impressive.

In a surprising twist, physical analog needles dance above an ultra-thin OLED instrument panel, developed in partnership with Samsung Display.

This cockpit, marrying cutting-edge tech with a nostalgic Nardi-style three-spoke wheel, proves that cars can transcend mere transportation to become rolling sculptures.

The Ferrari Luce, with its monstrous 1,000-plus horsepower, will fully reveal its exterior design this May.

Online commentators are hailing it as “Apple’s automotive dream realized” and “far more elegant than EVs with oversized screens.”

Despite its multi-billion KRW (multi-million USD) price tag, the world’s ultra-wealthy are scrambling to secure reservations for Ive’s Ferrari.

The frenzy surrounding this collaboration is rewriting automotive design history, with even the super-rich panicking at the prospect of missing out.

Editor’s Take: The Ferrari Luce, crafted by the father of touchscreens who ironically eschewed touch interfaces, stands as the most elegant and audacious answer to an era where electric vehicles seem to have lost their way.
