YEONGJU – Yoo Jeong-geun, former Acting Mayor of Yeongju, officially announced his candidacy for the upcoming June 3rd local elections at a press conference held at the Yeongju Future Strategy Institute on the 10th.
In his declaration, Yoo stated, “I stand here today with a profound sense of responsibility rather than excitement. I’ve decided to run to complete crucial projects that will shape Yeongju’s future, including the rejection of the waste treatment plant and securing investments from defense companies and clean hydrogen power plants.”
Yoo, who has dedicated his career to local administration, positioned himself as a “proven, hands-on administrator.” Drawing from his six-month tenure as Acting Mayor last year, he emphasized, “I have an unparalleled understanding of Yeongju’s potential, development trajectory, budget priorities, and the core issues facing our citizens.”
Reflecting on his interactions with residents during his term, Yoo noted, “The public’s disappointment in the lack of accountability for recurring issues erodes trust in government. The most crucial qualities for a local leader are moral integrity and effective administrative skills.”
Yoo outlined specific policy proposals to unlock Yeongju’s potential. His key initiatives include: developing an industrial ecosystem centered around the high-tech bearing national industrial complex and attracting defense companies; pioneering future energy industries by leveraging clean hydrogen power plants and drone-free zones; revitalizing urban commerce by boosting tourism and population; and transforming rural areas through smart agriculture and the integration of food, distribution, and tourism sectors.
“Yeongju’s potential hasn’t fully blossomed due to a lack of follow-through in administration, not a lack of capability,” Yoo asserted. “I commit to personally overseeing the completion of projects already underway or secured.”
In closing, Yoo emphasized, “A local leader should be judged not by their rhetoric, but by their ability to make timely decisions and take responsibility for outcomes. I pledge to complete the key initiatives I began as Acting Mayor, with the understanding that successes are credited to our citizens, while I bear full responsibility for any shortcomings.”
