Myung held a press conference at Yeosu City Hall’s briefing room, emphasizing that proven expertise is crucial in times of crisis.
He stated, “Yeosu’s current challenges cannot be overcome with mere rhetoric or image politics. We need a leader who can directly connect with the central government and provincial authorities, possess strong administrative skills, and demonstrate a proven track record of following through on commitments.”
Myung highlighted that the Justice Innovation Party, in collaboration with the Democratic Party, had overcome martial law threats and contributed to the establishment of the Lee Jae-myung administration. He promised to work responsibly with the ruling party and align with the Lee administration to secure necessary funding and policies for Yeosu.
To restore Yeosu’s former glory, Myung proposed several initiatives, including diversifying the materials industry for small and medium-sized businesses and aerospace, establishing an Energy Policy Bureau, providing free public transportation for commuters, expanding urban infrastructure, transforming the Yeosu Expo site into an international marine cultural hub, organizing an island art triennale, and completing the fisheries value chain.
Myung emphasized Yeosu’s pioneering role in achieving the ‘Samryeol Integration’ through a citizen-led initiative and successfully hosting the World Expo. He aims to leverage these accomplishments to attract ten million tourists annually and position Yeosu as a pivotal city on South Korea’s southern coast.
A graduate of Suncheon High School and Jeonnam University’s Department of Public Administration, Myung began his public service career in Yeosu after passing the first local high-level civil service exam in 1996. His extensive experience includes roles as head of Jeonnam’s Planning and Coordination Office, director of the Community Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Deputy Governor of South Jeolla Province.
