Hungary\u2019s new government has signaled it may withdraw its opposition to Kyiv\u2019s membership bid. [ Reporter ] Ukraine began pushing for EU membership immediately after Russia\u2019s invasion. President Zelensky has advanced his target, moving an expected 2030 accession up to next year. Hungary\u2014long seen as friendly to Russia\u2014had repeatedly blocked progress, and Germany had resisted a fast-track accession. But after the departure of former Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n, Hungary\u2019s new government said it may drop its objections. P\u00e9ter Magyar \/ Hungarian prime minister: \u201cWe are ready to open a new chapter in relations between Ukraine and Hungary.\u201d The prime minister added that he is prepared to meet President Zelensky if negotiations on the rights of Hungary\u2019s Hungarian-speaking minority in Ukraine are resolved satisfactorily. Observers say accession talks that had stalled could pick up speed for the first time in four years. Politico reported that EU member states plan to approve, at a meeting on the 15th, the opening of the first stage of accession talks for Ukraine and Moldova. Last night Russia launched a large-scale strike, deploying roughly 650 drones and 73 missiles. Officials say the attack included 33 hard-to-intercept ballistic missiles and eight Zircon hypersonic missiles. Many of those weapons penetrated air defenses and struck urban areas. President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia\u2019s attacks will continue if Ukraine cannot protect itself. He made an urgent appeal for U.S. Patriot missile systems and called on European governments to increase support. Volodymyr Zelensky \/ President of Ukraine: \u201cWe need missiles for air defenses, the necessary defensive systems, and critical intelligence assets\u2014the support that will save lives.\u201d At least 22 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in Ukraine during the strikes.
