[Digital Today reporter Hwang Chi-gyu] The Korea Digital Certification Association announced that, effective June 1, Yeom Heung-yeol, professor emeritus in the Department of Information Security at Suncheonhyang University, has been appointed its new chairman.<\/p>\n

Yeom said he will prioritize three main objectives: \u25b2 strengthening Korea\u2019s voice within international standards bodies like the ITU\u00b7ISO; \u25b2 supporting member companies\u2019 technological competitiveness and facilitating their global expansion; and \u25b2 expanding cooperation networks with related domestic and international organizations.<\/p>\n

Yeom said, \\”Now is the time to formalize Korea\u2019s digital identity and authentication technologies and infrastructure as international standards. As autonomous AI agents become part of everyday life and the digital economy crosses borders, we will deepen cooperation with international organizations like the ITU\u00b7ISO and concentrate the association\u2019s efforts to ensure Korean technologies are adopted as global standards.\\”<\/p>\n

In 2016 Yeom became the first Asian elected chair of ITU\u2011T SG17. He won re-election in 2022 and completed two terms; after his tenure he has served as vice chair of the ITU\u2011T TSAG.<\/p>\n

He added, \\”Digital authentication is core infrastructure in the AI-driven digital economy and underpins digital trust between countries.
