Security Council for June 1, citing rising military tensions inside Lebanon.<\/p>\n The Israeli military recently announced it had seized the strategic Beaufort Castle and nearby ridgelines in southern Lebanon. Officials said the operation is intended to consolidate control of that sector and the al-Sallouqi area, and to degrade Hezbollah’s Iran-backed military infrastructure.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n Israel’s capture of Beaufort Castle is the first time it has held the site since its withdrawal from Lebanon in May 2000 \u2014 26 years ago.
