U.S. Central Command said it carried out airstrikes on specific targets in southern Iran in self\u2011defense.<\/p>\n

Reuters reported, citing U.S. Central Command, that on May 25 (local time) the strikes targeted an Iranian vessel attempting to lay naval mines and also struck missile launchers.<\/p>\n

Central Command said it would continue to protect U.S. forces while the truce remains in effect.<\/p>\n

It characterized the strikes as defensive measures intended to protect U.S. personnel and to avoid further escalation.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Reuters said explosions were heard in several locations, including Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

Analysts are watching how Iran will respond.
