[Herald Economy=Shin Dae-won] Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, fired back on Facebook on the 24th, calling President Lee Jae-myung\u2019s criticism of Starbucks Korea\u2019s release of a Sewol Ferry 10th-anniversary \u201cSiren mug\u201d inaccurate and mounting a sharp rebuttal.<\/p>\n
On Facebook, Jang said Lee had accused Starbucks of staging a \u201csiren event\u201d on April 16 two years earlier and had denounced it as \u201cdonning a mask,\u201d \u201cbeastlike,\u201d and \u201can act of sacrilege.\u201d Jang insisted, however, that \u201cthere was no event to begin with.\u201d<\/p>\n
He described the post as a routine product announcement for a new \u201cSiren Classic,\u201d adding that \u201c\u2019Siren\u2019 is Starbucks\u2019 emblem and a generic name applied to all products bearing the Starbucks logo.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you take that line of argument, you shouldn\u2019t even offer \u2018Siren Order\u2019 on April 16. You\u2019d have to cover up Starbucks signs that display the siren,\u201d he said, warning, \u201cPretty soon people will mark tragedy dates on their calendars and avoid anything that even remotely overlaps.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jang intensified his criticism, omitting the president\u2019s title and saying, \u201cLee Jae-myung has lost his reason. He fires off comments without checking the facts.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also pointed to a photo of the president smiling while moving his office to the Blue House on Dec. 29 last year\u2014the first anniversary of the Muan Airport tragedy\u2014and retorted, \u201cYou should have gone to Muan. If you criticize him for moving to the Blue House, what would you say then?\u201d<\/p>\n
Jang claimed that, as opposition to the prosecution\u2019s decision to drop charges spread and public anger flared, Lee appeared unsettled and had been trying to rally his so-called \u201cgae-ddal\u201d supporters to turn the situation around.<\/p>\n
\u201cWake up. Our people won\u2019t be fooled anymore,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cWe\u2019ve been deceived enough\u2014over mad cow disease, Fukushima, and THAAD.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jang also highlighted comments on the Starbucks boycott thread, quoting lines such as, \u201cBoycott Ssangbangwool underwear because they illegally sent money to North Korea,\u201d and, \u201cPeople who wear Ssangbangwool underwear are accomplices to illegal remittances,\u201d and urged, \u201cEnough already.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
