\n A body to overhaul military organization and technical capabilities is set to launch<\/b>\n <\/div>\n


\n<\/nisubtitle> Kim Jong Un, chairman of North Korea\u2019s State Affairs Commission, summoned division and brigade commanders and ordered a buildup of forces along the Military Demarcation Line. <\/p>\n

KCNA reported May 18 that Kim gathered division and brigade commanders at the Workers\u2019 Party central headquarters on May 17 to address a series of \u201cimportant military issues.\u201d <\/p>\n

According to KCNA, Kim cited the Party\u2019s territorial defense policy to strengthen frontline units guarding the \u201csouthern border\u201d and to transform the border into an impregnable fortress. <\/p>\n

The comments signal a drive to bolster frontline forces along North Korea\u2019s southern boundary with South Korea \u2014 the Military Demarcation Line. <\/p>\n

Kim said he intends to treat the reorganization of the military\u2019s structure as an \u201cimportant decision\u201d aimed at improving deterrence. <\/p>\n

KCNA added that he outlined plans to upgrade key units, including frontline formations, through improved military technology. <\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWe will establish organizational measures to modernize the military both in structure and military technology,\u201d and KCNA reported that he stressed commanders\u2019 responsibilities and roles in executing those plans. <\/p>\n

He emphasized, \u201cAs our military\u2019s technical equipment modernizes rapidly, we must redefine operational concepts across all domains and urgently accelerate programs to apply those concepts to unit combat training.\u201d <\/p>\n

He ordered, \u201cTraining to complete combat readiness is the military\u2019s core duty,\u201d directing commanders to revamp the training system and focus on practical exercises that reflect the changing character of modern warfare and the force\u2019s developmental trajectory. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are building a powerful military,\u201d he said, adding that if the tasks set for the coming five-year plan are carried out, \u201cour military\u2019s preparedness for strategic action will be renewed beyond comparison with the present and will bring a major change in terms of war deterrence.\u201d <\/p>\n
