On May 6, Special Prosecutor Kwon Chang\u2011young\u2019s second team inspected military facilities at the Yeonpyeong Marine Corps unit in Yeonpyeong\u2011myeon, Ongjin County, Incheon. The visit was part of an inquiry into a suspected \u201ccollection site\u201d referenced in the notebook of former Army Intelligence Commander Noh Sang\u2011won.<\/p>\n

After inspecting the unit\u2019s holding facilities, the team reported that the site can be sealed off from the outside and controlled. Investigators said the facilities have the physical capacity to detain a large number of people for an extended period.<\/p>\n

The on-site check was intended to evaluate whether Noh\u2019s concept of a \u201ccollection site\u201d could be realized. Prosecutors said they found steel-barred enclosures inside an underground tunnel at the Yeonpyeong unit that could hold several hundred people.<\/p>\n

Noh\u2019s notebook reportedly lists high-priority targets under an \u201cA\u2011class\u201d heading, including President Lee Jae\u2011myung; former President Moon Jae\u2011in; former Chief Justice Kim Myeong\u2011soo; former Justice Kwon Soon\u2011il; Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheong\u2011rae; and Cho Kuk, leader of the Jo Guk Innovation Party. The notebook also outlines specific relocation and detention measures, including establishing a collection site on Yeonpyeong Island, and describes violent scenarios such as staging an attack in a frontline area, moving detainees to an uninhabited island and detonating explosives, or sinking them at sea.<\/p>\n

The special prosecutor\u2019s office said it will use the inspection findings to assess the notebook\u2019s level of detail and practical feasibility. Investigators will concentrate resources on proving Noh\u2019s alleged conspiracy to commit murder with the intent of furthering a rebellion.<\/p>\n

The team also plans to probe indications that other military facilities, including sites in Gangwon Province, were considered for use as collection sites. The notebook is reported to name five locations in total: Oeum\u2011ri, Hyeon\u2011ri, Hwacheon, and two uninhabited islands. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
