The LG Uplus union said its call to set aside 30% of operating profit for performance bonuses is the product of six years of sustained struggle. It added that dismissing this as a sudden \u201cexcessive\u201d demand\u2014apparently to align with recent government sentiment\u2014seriously undermines the legitimacy of their campaign.<\/p>\n
The union criticized attempts to shift blame without confirming facts, saying such behavior weakens labor solidarity. Characterizing another union\u2019s legitimate demands as unacceptable to deflect public criticism\u2014and effectively throwing them to the wolves\u2014is a cowardly tactic.<\/p>\n
The union emphasized, \u201cWorkers are not the enemy of other workers.\u201d<\/p>\n
It warned that demonizing fellow unions\u2019 demands, at a time when the president\u2019s remarks are perceived as pressure on the entire labor movement, only plays into the intra-labor conflict frame that capital and political power seek to impose.<\/p>\n
\u201cProving your own reasonableness by denigrating another\u2019s desperation is not genuine labor activism,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
