About 30% said they\u2019d choose a different gemstone instead of a diamond, and 26% said they\u2019d skip a ring altogether and spend the money on travel or special experiences instead.<\/p>\n
Social platforms like Instagram and TikTok have helped fuel the shift. With more tattoo-ring content circulating online, 61% of respondents said social media influenced changes in proposal culture.<\/p>\n
In Ithaca, New York, a couple in their 30s skipped traditional engagement rings and had a lightning bolt \u2014 a nod to Pok\u00e9mon\u2019s Pikachu \u2014 and the phrase \u201cI choose you\u201d tattooed on their fingers. The tattoo cost about 450,000 KRW (approximately $338 USD), and it\u2019s lasted through four years of marriage.<\/p>\n
The husband said, \u201cMy first tattoo was my engagement ring. The tattoo proves we chose each other and reminds us of that choice every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Experts say this isn\u2019t just a fad but a shift in values.
