\n<\/nisubtitle> Conflict between Samsung Electronics\u2019 labor union and shareholder groups over a possible general strike is intensifying. <\/p>\n

On April 26, the shareholder group Korea Shareholders Movement Headquarters notified police that it plans to hold a rally near Lee Jae\u2011yong\u2019s residence in Hannam\u2011dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, on the morning of May 21 under the banner \u201cRestore Shareholders\u2019 Rights.\u201d The group said the rally will last about 90 minutes and involve roughly 30 participants. <\/p>\n

The union has scheduled a large rally at the same time and place. The Samsung Electronics Union Joint Struggle Headquarters announced it will hold an all\u2011out strike rally beginning at 1 p.m., and observers view the shareholders\u2019 event as a direct countermeasure. <\/p>\n

Earlier, on the 23rd, the union staged a rally of about 40,000 at its Pyeongtaek plant to signal its readiness to escalate the dispute. The union is demanding performance bonuses equal to 15% of operating profit, with no cap. <\/p>\n
