{"id":257969,"date":"2026-04-21T00:11:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tenbizt.com\/en\/news\/uncategorized\/2026\/04\/21\/jang-sa-ik-honors-han-seung-heon-a-musical-tribute-to-a-human-rights-icon\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T00:11:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:11:18","slug":"jang-sa-ik-honors-han-seung-heon-a-musical-tribute-to-a-human-rights-icon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tenbizt.com\/en\/news\/music\/2026\/04\/21\/jang-sa-ik-honors-han-seung-heon-a-musical-tribute-to-a-human-rights-icon\/","title":{"rendered":"Jang Sa-ik Honors Han Seung-heon: A Musical Tribute to a Human Rights Icon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Translation result.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\" image-style-align-right image_resized style=\"width:50%;\">\n <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-union.tenbizt.com\/\/content\/image\/2026\/04\/20\/20260420500485.jpg\" alt=\"Second\" alt text storyid=\"0a000b0d-9c88-10b4-819d-a9d890e235fa\"><figcaption style=\"text-align:left;\">\n  Jang Sa-ik answers interview questions on April 20. \/ Cho Hyun-wook<br \/>\n <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI hope we continue to honor and carry on Mr. Han Seung\u2011heon\u2019s spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the fourth anniversary memorial for Sanmin Han Seung\u2011heon, singer Jang Sa\u2011ik\u2014who performed the tribute songs\u2014recalled his relationship with Han and offered those words.<\/p>\n<p>At Jinsudang Hall at Jeonbuk National University on April 20, Jang paid tribute to the late Sanmin Han Seung\u2011heon with three songs: \u201cMy Path,\u201d \u201cSpring Days Have Passed,\u201d and \u201cGomoryeong Ridge.\u201d Attendees listened attentively and reflected on Han\u2019s life as a human-rights lawyer and man of letters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jang said their friendship began because they lived in the same neighborhood and that Han loved music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I\u2019m a singer, our first connection came through song,\u201d he said. \u201cHe really enjoyed my music, and he lived less than a five-minute drive away, so I saw him often until he passed.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt first I thought he might be stern, but he had a warm sense of humor and a deep love of music,\u201d Jang added. \u201cHe was an elder I admired greatly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the first song Jang performed, \u201cMy Path,\u201d sets music to a poem Han gave him during his lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018My Path\u2019 captures Mr. Han\u2019s dreams and hopes, and his sorrow about having limited time left,\u201d Jang said. \u201cAt the time, he gave me the poem and asked me to turn it into a song and perform it at a big celebration.\u201d He added, \u201cThe second song, \u2018Spring Days Have Passed,\u2019 was one of his favorites in life, and I chose the third song as something people would enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jang emphasized that Han\u2019s influence has been positive both in life and after his death, and he hopes that legacy will continue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Han did much while he was alive, and after his death the Sanmin Prize has helped inspire many to contribute to society and do meaningful work,\u201d Jang said. \u201cWe remember him as one of Jeonbuk\u2019s great elders, and we hope his spirit endures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jang Sa\u2011ik, who debuted in 1994 with \u201cThe Road to the Heavens,\u201d released hits including \u201cWild Rose,\u201d \u201cSpring Days Have Passed,\u201d \u201cSpring Rain,\u201d and \u201cFlower Viewing.\u201d He won the KBS Gugak Grand Prize (Gold) in 1995 and the National Assembly Popular Culture and Media Gugak Award in 2006.
