Anseong City held the 46th Disability Day event on the 17th at the Anseong Matchum Land Namsadang Performance Hall, creating a forum to raise awareness of disability and promote social inclusion.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Anseong Council of Organizations for the Disabled, about 1,000 people \u2014 including persons with disabilities, their family members and officials \u2014 attended. The program began with an orchestra prelude and proceeded with a first-half commemorative ceremony followed by a community gathering. Under this year\u2019s Disability Day slogan, “Everyday Life, Accessible to All,” the event sought to reaffirm the need to build a social environment where people with disabilities can live free from discrimination.<\/p>\n

The commemorative ceremony featured a reading of the Disability Rights Charter and opening and congratulatory remarks. Citations and plaques of appreciation were awarded to 38 exemplary people with disabilities and individuals who contributed to advancing disability welfare. During the community gathering, disability organizations presented performances, talent shows and a raffle, giving attendees time to interact and celebrate together. City officials said the event underscored the importance of a community in which people with and without disabilities participate together.<\/p>\n

The event aligns with Anseong City\u2019s ongoing disability-welfare initiatives. The city provides disability pensions, disability allowances, medical expense support, coverage for registration diagnostic and testing fees, provision of assistive devices, childbirth cost support for women with disabilities, issuance of disability parking permits and self-reliance loans.<\/p>\n

Through its disability activity support service, the city pays a monthly base allowance plus additional payments and offers further support depending on living circumstances such as living alone, childbirth, employment or school enrollment. <\/p>\n

The city is also expanding employment supports to strengthen independence. In March, Anseong recruited participants for the “2026 Rights-Centered Customized Public Employment Program for People with Severe Disabilities,” and announced projects in advocacy, disability-awareness activities and cultural\u2013arts programs to run from April 1 through December 31. The initiative is intended to broaden social participation beyond employment to include awareness-raising and cultural engagement.<\/p>\n

Anseong is advancing lifelong learning and digital-access programs as well. The city will operate disability-focused lifelong education programs from February through October this year, with a project budget of 9,000,000 KRW (approximately $6,750). Through the Anseong Disabled Welfare Center, the city is also recruiting students for group IT classes for people with disabilities, including basic mobile, basic computer and computer certification courses. Officials say these efforts aim to expand both the learning rights and information access of people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

A city official said, “Now more than ever, the value of togetherness matters. I hope today\u2019s event becomes a meaningful milestone for mutual understanding and respect.” The official added, “We will continue to do our best to make Anseong a place where disability is not a barrier.”<\/p>\n
