Candidates Jeon Hyun-hee and Park Joo-min were eliminated after failing to qualify for a runoff.<\/p>\n<p>At party headquarters, So Byung-hoon, chair of the Democratic Party&#8217;s election committee, said, \\&#8221;Candidate Jung won the most votes and secured a majority, confirming him as the party&#8217;s final candidate without a runoff.\\&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--\uad11\uace0\uc601\uc5ed 241017--><!--\/\/\uad11\uace0\uc601\uc5ed 241017--><\/p>\n<p>Jung, a three-term Seongdong district mayor, began his political career in 2000 as an aide to then-National Assembly member Lim Jong-seok. He was first elected Seongdong district mayor in the 2014 local election as a member of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (the predecessor to the Democratic Party) and won re-election in 2018 and 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Jung drew heightened attention as a Seoul mayoral contender after praise from President Lee Jae-myung. Last December, the president shared an article on Twitter about a Seongdong resident poll and wrote, \\&#8221;Mayor Jung Won-oh must be doing a good job. My approval as Seongnam mayor was fairly high, but I probably couldn&#8217;t hold a candle to him.\\&#8221; After that, Jung became a focal point within the party as a potential Seoul candidate.<\/p>\n<div id=\"AnyMindavs\"><\/div>\n<p>Immediately after the primary results were announced, Jung posted on Facebook: \\&#8221;Choosing Jung Won-oh does not end here. That choice is a stern command to win Seoul on June 3 as a united Democratic Party.\\&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the People Power Party has not yet selected its Seoul mayoral candidate.<\/p>\n<p>By
