Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>Local outlets, including the Times of Israel, reported that on the 26th (local time) an airstrike in the Bandar Abbas area of southern Iran killed IRGC Navy commander Alireza Tangsiri.<\/p>\n<p>An Israeli government official said the strike on the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, which sits on the Strait of Hormuz, killed Tangsiri.<\/p>\n<p>The official said Tangsiri had led efforts to block and control the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit route for global energy shipments.<\/p>\n<p>Neither the Israeli military nor Iran\u2019s armed forces have issued an official statement about the strike.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts say Tangsiri, a brigadier general who took command of the IRGC Navy in 2018, focused on expanding the force\u2019s maritime capabilities,
