[Point Economy] The 46th TPO Executive Committee \u2014 the main decision-making body of the Global Tourism Promotion Organization (TPO), where leading cities around the world collaborate on tourism \u2014 convened on the 18th at the Gyeongju Hwabaek Convention Center (HICO).<\/p>\n

Held in Gyeongju \u2014 which successfully hosted the 2025 APEC summit \u2014 the meeting spotlighted the city’s millennia-old cultural heritage and reinforced its standing as a global conference destination.<\/p>\n

About 80 people attended, including representatives from six executive committee cities: host Gyeongju; chair city Busan; Gimhae; Malaysia’s Kota Kinabalu and Ipoh; Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City; and Guangzhou, China. Tourism officials and private-sector leaders also joined the discussions.<\/p>\n

The TPO Executive Committee is the organization’s highest decision-making body. It reviews and approves major policy directions and project progress, while shaping cooperation strategies among member cities.<\/p>\n

At this session, members reviewed progress on key projects for 2026 and approved measures to deepen tourism collaboration between global cities and guide the TPO’s medium- to long-term development.<\/p>\n

The joint promotional presentation (JPP) and a G2B networking program held alongside the meeting drew notable interest from participants.<\/p>\n

Delegations presented their signature tourism assets and incentive programs to domestic industry representatives and held business consultations aimed at developing travel products linking overseas member cities with Korea’s tourism sector. In addition, a special global expert briefing on \\”Data- and AI-based Urban Tourism Governance\\” outlined policy directions for tourism in the digital transformation era.<\/p>\n

After the official program, participants joined an evening inspection tour of Daereungwon, Donggung and Wolji, and Woljeonggyo. Attendees were highly engaged by Gyeongju’s blend of historic sites and nighttime scenery.<\/p>\n

TPO Secretary-General Kang Da-eun said, \\”This meeting shared Gyeongju’s tourism competitiveness in the post-APEC era and produced tangible business cooperation. We will continue to strengthen our role as a platform for inter-city tourism exchange.\\”<\/p>\n

Acting Gyeongju Mayor Choi Hyuk-jun said, \\”Building on the international capacity confirmed through APEC, Gyeongju stands at a turning point toward becoming a global tourism city.
