The name “Mary Jane” has a cute backstory. It comes from a character in the 1902 comic “Buster Brown,” where the protagonist’s girlfriend rocked this style. In Korea, they’ve got adorable nicknames like “candy shoes” or “Dorothy shoes.”
Ugg, the cozy boot brand we all know and love, is turning heads with their winter-ready take on the Mary Jane design.
If you’re curious, swing by the Ugg store on the 3rd floor of Gwangju Shinsegae. Their Via Mary Jane is a fresh twist on the classic Ugg boot, ditching the ankle coverage to show off a little instep.
New Balance, another hot spot at Gwangju Shinsegae, jumped on the Mary Jane bandwagon with their Winter Breeze style for the 2025 Fall\/Winter season. It was a total hit!
Riding that wave of success, New Balance has unveiled their 2026 Spring\/Summer Breeze. It’s got all the feminine charm of a Mary Jane with the comfort New Balance is famous for. Unlike its winter counterpart, this version skips the fleece lining, making it perfect for spring through fall.
Even Onitsuka Tiger, the brand that’s all about blurring lines between sporty and chic, is getting in on the Mary Jane action. They first dipped their toes in the trend with their 2025 Fall\/Winter collection. Now, they’re going all out with eye-catching metallic reds, pinks, and yellows that are sure to turn heads.<\/p>\n
