Three sessions start May 29; limited to 30 local residents, first-come, first-served
Seoul’s Dobong Cultural Information Library announced on May 14 that it will host a lecture series, “Classics Through Stories,” exploring the works of classical masters through a humanities lens.
The program features accessible commentary lectures that illuminate each era’s prominent composers by examining their lives and music from a humanistic perspective.
The talks will be held three times — May 29, June 26 and July 31 — in the Cultural Maru on the library’s second floor.
The May session will introduce Baroque composers such as Bach, Handel and Vivaldi. June will focus on Romantic-era music, centered on Chopin and Liszt. In July, the series will turn to Mahler, beloved by Belle Époque audiences, and Erik Satie, who crafted a distinctly original musical world.
Pianist Ha-na Lim will lead the lectures, presenting material so that those without a background in classical music can easily follow.
Registration for the May session opens at 2 p.m. on May 14 via the Dobong District Integrated Library website. Space is limited to the first 30 local residents who sign up.
The Dobong Cultural Information Library says the series aims to broaden access to classical music and to help deepen local residents’ artistic knowledge and appreciation.
