[Herald Economy=Park Jong-il, Senior Reporter] The Dobong Cultural Information Library in Dobong-gu, Seoul has launched a humanities series, Listening to Classics Through Stories, designed to help audiences dive more deeply into the music of classical masters.
Each lecture explores the lives and works of major composers through an accessible humanities lens.
The series will meet three times—May 29, June 26 and July 31—on the second-floor cultural space, Munhwa Maru, at the Dobong Cultural Information Library.
May’s session focuses on Baroque figures such as Bach, Handel and Vivaldi. June turns to Romantic-era giants Chopin and Liszt.
In July, the program will spotlight Gustav Mahler—beloved by Belle Époque audiences—and the singularly original composer Erik Satie.
Pianist Hana Im will lead the talks, aiming to make classical music approachable for listeners with little or no prior training.
Registration for the May session opens May 14 at 2:00 p.m. via the Dobong District Integrated Library. Attendance is limited to the first 30 local residents who sign up.
Library officials say the series aims to lower the barrier to classical music and strengthen residents’ artistic literacy and aesthetic awareness.
