Dio Orchestra is hosting its second Young Artist Competition to identify the next generation of classical musicians.
This year the contest widens its reach, adding a winds category to last year’s string-focused lineup. The change gives a broader range of instrumentalists the chance to gain stage experience and perform with an orchestra.
The competition is open to participants in divisions from kindergarten through university. Entrants should perform either a free-choice piece or one movement of a concerto suitable for orchestral collaboration. Applications must be submitted by email by July 19. The main competition will take place July 25 at the Camerata Hall of the Daegu Opera House. A panel of conservatory professors and professional musicians will judge contestants by age group and category.
The winners will perform together Sept. 13 at the Suseong Artpia Grand Theater. The overall winner and each category winner will have the opportunity to appear with the Dio Orchestra on a major-theater stage, and organizers will cover collaboration-related expenses. The application form and full announcement are available on the Dio Orchestra website. Inquiries: 053-655-1108.
