Girl group NewJeans is facing a copyright-infringement lawsuit in the United States.

On May 8 (U.S. local time), Billboard reported that four songwriters, including Audrey Amacost, filed suit against NewJeans and their agency seeking a share of royalties. The writers allege the group’s May 2024 release, “How Sweet,” copies their demo, “One of a Kind.”
The writers say they previously pitched a topline — the principal vocal melody — to NewJeans, but that pitch was not adopted. They contend the melody and arrangement of the first verse of “How Sweet,” released afterward, bear significant similarities to “One of a Kind.”
Adore Entertainment, NewJeans’ agency, said it consulted with BANA, who composed and produced the track; BANA denies any plagiarism. Adore added that the agency and the members will respond to the lawsuit in line with BANA’s position.
