[MyDaily = Reporter Han So-hee] Mosu Seoul — the fine-dining restaurant run by celebrity chef Ahn Seong-jae — is facing a wine-service controversy. Diners posting online say the restaurant served a different vintage than the one listed in a pricey wine pairing.
The issue first surfaced in a post on an online community. The poster, identified only as A, says they were dining with friends at Mosu Seoul when a problem arose during the wine pairing. The menu listed Château Léoville Barton 2000 as the vintage, but A says the sommelier initially brought a 2005 bottle.
A says they didn’t notice at first, but became suspicious when the wine’s aroma and flavor didn’t match their expectations for the 2000 vintage. After asking for confirmation, the sommelier reportedly changed their explanation, saying the 2000 bottle was elsewhere. A alleges that the 2000 vintage was only brought out after they requested to take a photo.
A suspects the staff poured the 2005 wine first and later swapped the bottle to make it appear to be a 2000. Reports put the price difference between the two vintages at roughly 100,000 KRW (≈ $75 USD).
Most of all, A expressed disappointment with how the restaurant handled the situation. Rather than offering a clear apology, staff reportedly said they would let the party taste the 2000 vintage — a response A found inadequate.
As the account spread online, reactions were mixed. Some commenters stressed that trust in service is crucial at high-end restaurants and criticized the establishment. Others urged caution, suggesting it might have been an honest mistake and that people should wait for an official response.
Mosu Seoul is one of South Korea’s flagship eateries and has held a Michelin star; it has remained popular since reopening. The restaurant has not issued an official statement regarding the controversy.
