Disney Cruise Line said it held a successful naming ceremony in Singapore for Disney Adventure, its first ship to homeport in Asia. The ceremony on the 4th celebrated the vessel’s upcoming inaugural voyage, scheduled to set sail on March 10. The company said it will step up its push into the Asian cruise market and showcase signature entertainment rooted in Disney storytelling.
When Disney Adventure arrived at Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre, it was welcomed with an elaborate water salute and fireworks. The naming ceremony, staged in the ship’s Walt Disney Theatre, featured vocalists and musicians, special appearances by Captain Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, and other performances built around Disney storytelling. Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, and Jo Short, president of Disney Signature Experiences, attended. D’Amaro said, “Disney Adventure will mark an important milestone that opens a new chapter for Disney Cruise Line.”
Actor Robert Downey Jr. served as the ship’s official godfather, wishing good fortune to the vessel and its passengers. “I’m convinced there is no better name for this ship than ‘Adventure,’” he said. Disney Adventure draws on more than a century of storytelling from Disney, Pixar and Marvel. The ship offers seven immersive themed zones, a new Broadway-style musical called Remember, and a sea-based roller coaster called the IronCycle Test Run, among other attractions. It also features facilities designed for every age group, from families to adults.
Disney Adventure is the eighth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and the largest to date. Its launch is part of the largest expansion plan in Disney Experiences’ history: the division plans to add five more ships by 2031. As Disney’s first ship to homeport in Asia, Disney Adventure is expected to deliver a fresh kind of ocean-going experience.
