[Sports Seoul | Yoon Dong-eon] BTS expressed disappointment over a surge in lodging prices ahead of their upcoming Busan concerts.
After taking home three awards, including top honors, at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas on the 26th, the group connected with fans via Weverse Live. During the livestream, they addressed their scheduled shows in Busan this June.
Once the tour dates were announced, lodging rates around Busan more than doubled on average. Some properties reportedly hiked prices by as much as sevenfold, sparking public outcry.
RM said, “It’s been a long time since we’ve been to Busan, and there was something I wanted to say.” He added, “I saw recent reports about lodging in Busan, and honestly, it made me feel bad. In the long run, shouldn’t things move in a way that’s good for everyone? Busan has become a great tourist city, and two of our members are from there.”
He criticized the sharp price increases directly: “It’s understandable that prices change between peak and off-peak seasons, but they should be reasonable. Let’s not do that.” Jimin, who is from Busan, echoed the sentiment: “This has gone too far. Raising prices by multiple times doesn’t seem right.”
BTS is scheduled to perform in Busan on June 12 and 13 as part of their Arirang world tour. hellboy321@sportsseoul.com
