Unlocking Opportunities: How Sangmyung University’s Program Supports International Students in South Korea

Sangmyung University held a program to help international students settle, find employment and build networks at its Seoul Campus Innovation Convergence Park on the 12th.

The university’s International Student Support Team organized the event to remove barriers international students face during the early stages of adjusting to life in Korea. The goal was to improve daily life satisfaction and enhance access to career planning through domestic employment and visa support. The University Job Plus Center and the Overseas Internship Exchange Center hosted the program, with DAGACHI, LG U+ and Shinhan Card participating as partner organizations.

The program was divided into lecture sessions and on-site booths. Lectures covered practical topics international students need to know in Korea: opening bank accounts and navigating financial services; activating telecommunications services and choosing plans; guidance on rental contracts for foreigners; and the steps for preparing to work in Korea. At the on-site booths, staff provided in-person help opening accounts and issuing cards, signing up for telecom services and activating devices, housing and real-estate counseling, and employment and career advising.

The university also ran a range of support programs to help international students form communities for exchange and information sharing, and to support more secure settlement.

A spokesperson for the International Student Support Team said, “What international students truly need is a stable settlement and a sustainable foundation for studying abroad. We will expand programs like this one so students can receive information and in-person support in a single step.”
