Peabo Bryson, the soul singer best known for the duets that anchored Disney’s Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, has died. He was 75.
Yonhap, citing the Associated Press, reported that Bryson’s family said he died on June 2 after suffering a stroke from which he did not recover.
In a statement, his family said they were heartbroken but found comfort in how deeply Bryson was loved and how his voice and spirit moved so many people. They said his music will continue to resonate across generations.
A native of South Carolina, Bryson began his career in the 1970s with the group Moses Dillard & the Tex-Town Display before launching a solo career.
He rose to international fame with the title song from Beauty and the Beast, recorded with Céline Dion, and with “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, sung with Regina Belle. The two recordings earned him back-to-back Grammy Awards in 1993 and 1994.
He suffered a heart attack in 2019 but later made a full recovery.
